Sara Dechka has had a love of pottery for many years. Inspired by the many artists on Vancouver island Sara took her first class in 2005 while living in Victoria. With having 3 girls and a move to Saskatoon the busyness of live got in the way but Sara re-kindled her love of pottery nearly 10 years later by taking a class at the Saskatoon Potters Guild. In 2016 Sara joined the Potters Guild and has been an active member and instructor since then. Sara specializes in functional pottery, both thrown and hand-built and her unique style is easily recognized by the shape and glazing of her work.
An artist once told her you can never stop learning and to always push yourself to be an expert in your craft. These words inspired Sara to keep working, refining her technique, and also experiment with different styles and firing methods.
When she’s not at the wheel Sara’s fortunate to spend time with her family at Emma Lake where she takes inspiration from the wilderness and being close to nature.
